Aloud Ink ("we", "us", "our") makes dictation software for macOS and iOS. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. What we collect

Account information. Your email address. If you sign in with Google or X, we receive your account identifier and email address from those services; we never receive your password for them.

Audio and transcribed text. The audio you record when you trigger dictation is sent over an encrypted connection to our servers to be transcribed and cleaned up, then discarded. We do not store your recordings, and we do not store the transcribed text.

Personal dictionary. Terms you add yourself, plus terms the system extracts from the difference between the original and corrected text when you use speak-to-edit (marked as added automatically). They improve recognition accuracy, and you can review or delete them at any time on the web.

Usage records. For each dictation: audio duration, number of characters recognized, model usage, language, and timestamp. These meter your quota and billing and contain none of what you dictated.

Subscription information. If you subscribe to Pro, we store the customer and subscription identifiers issued by Stripe. Card details are handled and held by Stripe; we never see them.

Technical logs. Server access logs kept to operate and troubleshoot the service, which may include IP addresses, timestamps, and error messages.

2. About "Allow Full Access" on the iOS keyboard

The Aloud Ink keyboard requires Allow Full Access to function. This is an iOS restriction: without it, a keyboard extension cannot reach the network, and your speech cannot be sent for transcription.

We do not log your keystrokes, do not read your clipboard, and do not collect what you type in other apps.

The keyboard reads a small amount of text immediately before the cursor to check whether the dictation result we just inserted is still there, so that "undo" and "correct" act on our own text and never delete something you wrote. That check happens entirely on your device; the text never leaves it.

When you use speak-to-edit, the passage being corrected — that is, the dictation result we just inserted for you — is sent to our servers along with the new recording so the corrected version can be produced.

3. About the clipboard on macOS

To place text into your active field on macOS, we borrow the system clipboard briefly: we back up your existing clipboard contents, write the transcription, synthesize ⌘V, and then restore what was there before. This happens entirely on your machine, and clipboard contents are never uploaded.

4. Data kept on your device

The Mac and iOS apps keep your dictation history locally on your device so you can review and copy it. This history is not uploaded to our servers, and you can clear it in the app at any time (on iOS: Settings → Clear local data).

5. How we use this information

To provide speech recognition, text clean-up, translation, and correction; to meter usage and enforce free quotas and subscription entitlements; to send necessary service email such as sign-in codes; and to troubleshoot, prevent abuse, and keep the service secure.

6. Third parties

To operate the service we engage the following categories of providers, contractually limited to processing data only to provide the service to you:

  • Speech recognition and AI text-processing providers — to turn your audio into text and to clean up, translate, or correct it
  • A payment provider (Stripe) — to handle subscriptions and payments
  • An email delivery provider — to deliver sign-in codes and other service email
  • Third-party sign-in services (Google, X) — only if you choose to use them

We do not sell your personal information, do not use it for advertising, and the products contain no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. We do not use your audio or transcribed text to train models.

7. Retention

Account information, your personal dictionary, and usage records are kept for as long as your account exists. Recordings and transcribed text are not retained (see section 1). Technical logs are kept only to operate and troubleshoot the service.

8. Your rights and choices

  • Review and manage: see your usage, manage your dictionary, and change your account email on the web
  • Delete terms: remove any entry from your personal dictionary at any time
  • Clear local history: clear it inside the Mac or iOS app
  • Delete your account: do it yourself under Settings → Delete account on the web. Your account, personal dictionary, and usage records are permanently deleted, and any active subscription is cancelled
  • Withdraw permissions: turn off microphone access or the keyboard's Full Access in system settings at any time

9. Children

The service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. We will give separate notice, in the product or by email, of any significant change.
